INSIDE IN / INSIDE OUT

In Tasked with the redesign of an existing album cover, The Kooks' Inside In/Inside Out was chosen to explore. The original cover was a simple black and white image of the band with the album name top and centred in red. For such a cheeky, vibrant and youthful album, the reimagined cover needed to showcase this more readily to its listeners.
Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop were used throughout this project.
The main inspiration was taken from their song Naive with the line “hold on to your kite / just don’t let me down”. This line provided a clear direction for the overall theme, and was the basis for experimentation into how to represent these words. A minimal childlike cover that links back to the main concept of naivety was created using freehand typography, mixed media and illustration.
The final product includes the front & back album cover, side A & B vinyl art, side A & B lyric cards, and an album poster.
